VSBA Spring Meeting

This year’s spring meeting is being hosted by the Nansemond Beekeepers Association and will be held at the Smithfield Center, Smithfield, Virginia.

The Speakers: Dr. Larry Connor, retired Extension Bee Specialist at the Ohio State University; and, Jennifer Berry, Apicultural Research Coordinator and Lab Manager for the University of Georgia Honey Bee Program. There will be workshops Saturday afternoon.

Registration on Friday, June 17 will open at 12 noon with the meeting beginning at 1pm. Registration will re-open on Saturday morning at 8:00am. The meeting will begin at 8:45am. There will be speaker presentations, a business meeting with elections, the State Apiarist’s Report and an update on the Master Beekeeper Program. The Meeting Committee has contacted several hotels in the area for group rates:

Hampton Inn & Suites, 200 Vincents Crossing, Smithfield,( 3 miles from venue) 757-365-4760 has rooms available for $119 per night, plus tax for a standard king or queen room and king or queen suites for the rate of $139 per night, plus tax. This rate includes a hot breakfast. You must mention Virginia State Beekeepers Association for the group rate. The group contract expires Thursday, May 26th.

Econo Lodge Inn & Suites, 20080 Brewers Neck Blvd, Carrollton, (5 miles from venue), 757-542-3091 has rooms available for a rate of $59.99 per night, plus tax for two double beds; and, $65.99 per night, plus tax for a room with a king bed.

As with all locations, there is an occupancy capacity so we advise that you pre-register if possible.

The VSBA is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting and advancing beekeeping in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Membership in the VSBA is open to beekeepers and non-beekeepers, alike. Annual membership dues are $12.00 per individual/family or $10.00 through local associations. In addition to other benefits, members receive a quarterly newsletter.
